Let’s stay fit & healthy this CMCO
On 27th October, second enforcement of the Conditional Movement Control Order was ordered by the government, where the majority of Klang Valley employees were requested to Work from Home (WFH) to help curb the spread of COVID-19. While working from home has its perks such as avoiding rush hour and taking calls from the couch, telecommuting can be detrimental to your wellness leading to a sedentary life. It is important for your physical and mental health to remain active especially when you are working from home. Here are 5 tips on staying active during the CMCO:
1. Schedule a walk or jog
Scheduling a daily routine that involves clocking in the steps to get your body moving.. Whether it’s an early morning workout to get the juices flowing or a post-work jog, building exercise into your daily planner can help you stay on track. Let’s not forget the post endorphins it generates to help you stay collected and boost creativity!
2. Set a reminder to consistently move around
Being stationary for long periods can be damaging to your physical health. Even if you’ve clocked in your fitness regime for the day, sitting at a desk for hours on end can put you at increased risk for back pain, heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure.
So, what is the solution? Set a timer every hour to remind you to get up and move for a few minutes. The moment it goes off, get up and grab a healthy snack, walk up and down the stairs, or even do some quick jumping jacks to get your heart pumping to boost your energy.
3. Take regular breaks
Throughout your workday, take a breather from work to stand up and walk around. Being stationary can potentially encourage laziness. Walking has been shown to improve mood, stimulate creativity, and enhance focus, making it an all-around win for your health and productivity.
4. Find workouts online
Social media, video streaming websites and an abundance of smartphone apps offer a variety of workouts from HIIT, Yoga, kickboxing, and much more. There’s a fitness class for everyone catered to all fitness levels and most are free! If you lack motivation, start an online workout group using apps like Zoom or Google Hangouts with a few friends or work colleagues. Give the Co-labs Coworking HIIT workout a go here.
5. Workout with household items
No fancy gym equipment in your home? No problem. There are plenty of no-equipment workouts you can find online. Sit-ups, push-ups, yoga, and many other types of exercise can be done with no equipment at all. Jogging or running requires nothing more than a pair of sneakers. Need a little weight to boost your HIIT workout? Try utilizing simple household items such as a bag of sugar, cans of soup, or a bottle of laundry detergent as weights if you’re starting out with strength training.
